Rain and wind sweep the Marche, hail in the foothills. Temperatures plummet

Strong wind, with gusts that pushed leaves and branches onto the roads, some lightning and rain, fortunately not intense, in addition to the hail which mainly hit the foothills, “whitening” gardens and some streets with ice. These are the effects of the wave of bad weather, widely expected, which affected the Marche in the early afternoon of today, 16 April. Fortunately, the damage was very limited and was mainly caused by strong gusts of wind. A tall tree fell in the afternoon in via Zermanesa in Treviso, along the overpass at the “Boltar” barracks, on the lane heading towards Dosson-Treviso. For this operation which saw the collaboration of firefighters, carabinieri and local police, it was necessary to close the road in both directions. The firefighters, due to the strong wind, were unable to use the ladder truck and the municipality’s public green sector was unable to intervene in an emergency on that stretch of road (which was initially supposed to be the responsibility of Veneto Strada but this was not the case). It was therefore decided to close the overpass until tomorrow, April 17, for safety reasons. In the meantime, some barriers have been positioned and a text message has been inserted on the variable message signs to alert motorists.

Another large tree fell in via Feltrina, also Treviso, at number 122 (also invading the cycle path) and caused serious traffic disruption. Other unsafe Telecom poles and trees (at least a dozen firefighters intervened) fell in the province in Gorgo, Motta, Ponte di Piave, Piavon di Oderzo but also in Carbonera. The monitoring of the situation is entrusted to the local police and fire brigade operations centers.

The effect of this disturbance is tangible especially when looking at the thermometer with a climate that has changed from summer to spring: at 1pm in Treviso the Arpav control unit in via Lancieri di Novara recorded 22.7° (last Sunday at 3pm the peak of 28.5 was reached °) but only at 2.30 pm this value was already 13.7°. At 3pm in Villorba the temperature was 12.2°, in Vittorio Veneto 12.4°, in Conegliano 11.8°, in Volpago 12.8°, in Montebelluna 13.2°, Castelfranco 13.7°, in Gaiarine 9.9°, Follina 11.2°.

Many, especially on the left Piave, mindful of the terrible hailstorms that caused extensive damage last summer (there were hundreds of cars that suffered damage to the bodywork and windows), have put their cars away (especially those without a garage). in underground car parks of shopping centers or other similar structures.

To confirm the crazy weather, there was also a brief snowfall that affected Pizzoc, on Cansiglio. “This afternoon’s hailstorm on Cansiglio, followed by the snow that is starting to fall above 1000 meters!” wrote the municipal councilor of Fregona, Daniele Dal Mas.
