The Sanremo Festival, a symbol of Italian music, entertainment and culture for decades, is now in a phase of uncertainty after the abandonment of Amadeus, the legendary showman who led it for years, and who terminated the contract with Rai to move to the giant of Discovery Channel entertainment. This situation has turned the spotlight on a possible uncertain future for the most followed and discussed event on the Italian music scene.

With the loss of Amadeus, Rai could also see its management slip away Festival, an event that generated not only very high audience ratings, but also considerable economic income for the city of Sanremo and for the entire country. The rumors circulating regarding the possibility that the Festival will change management are also fueled by the legal battles between Rai and the record companies, which raise doubts about the exclusivity of the broadcast of the event.

Because Sanremo could escape Rai

According to some, the event could be the subject of a European tender, considering its cultural value and the broad national reach that only Rai can guarantee. However, this prospect raises concerns regarding the stability and continuity of the Festival, considering that similar events are usually managed directly by national public television, which is the only one able to broadcast the final throughout the national territory, as it should be done by contract.

The economic aspect of the Festival is crucial: tens of millions of euros are generated every year through advertising, tourism and related industries in various sectors. During those days, Sanremo transforms into a crossroads of artists, spectators and music lovers, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere.

However, there is no shortage of criticism regarding the city itself and its ability to host such a large and important event. Some believe that Sanremo has become obsolete and does not live up to the prestige of the Festival, with infrastructure and services not up to modern needs.

Sanremo locked down until 2025

While the future of the Festival is being discussed, the mayor of Sanremo Alberto Biancheri reiterates the importance of respecting the agreements stipulated with Rai until 2025. However, the doubt remains as to what will happen after this date: will a contract be made? The future will partly depend on the will of future administrations and the decisions of the institutions.

In any case, the Sanremo Festival remains a pillar of Italian culture and entertainment, and its continuity is fundamental not only for the music industry, but also for the country’s cultural identity.
