The fourth and final stage of the “Let’s learn to eat healthy” project is underway

BITONTO, 14 April 2024 –Last appointment, in Bitonto, for the project “Let’s learn to eat healthy” which, since January, has brought six hundred primary school students among the green landscapes of Balice Lama, to discover its beauties and riches. The fourth workshop is underway, dedicated to the importance of eating fruit, preferably local.

Promoted by Puglia region And Municipality of Bitontoin collaboration with Masseria Lama Balice, the initiative includes four events in an educational farm. The first appointment, in January, was dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and, in particular, to Cima di Bitonto. The second, in February, on the importance of vegetables in nutrition. The third was instead dedicated to the environment and territory of the Lama Balice Regional Natural Park, to its geological, historical, archaeological and natural characteristics of exceptional cultural value.

During this fourth stage, the children will learn the importance, for a healthy life, of a diet that includes fruit, preferably in season, an important source of vitamins, mineral salts and fibre. The activity will aim to introduce children and young people to the world of fruit and its sweetest variations, such as jams and marmalades, to learn about the typical features of our territory, the seasonality and the way of growing and harvesting them.

«We have always supported this project because it is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of prevention through correct nutrition. We believe it is the right path to take, in synergy with local associations, schools and families. It is important that the municipality does its part to promote these initiatives» is the mayor’s comment Francesco Paolo Ricci.

«This project has had a positive impact on children. We have noticed that children are changing their eating habits for the better. They are more likely to eat home-made snacks rather than industrial snacks, or drink pressed fruit instead of industrial fruit juices» he adds Anna Luisi“Don Tonino Bello – Caiati” comprehensive institute.

«We are offering children apples and oranges, to make them understand their importance for health. We are finding the children very enthusiastic. Children have a lot of curiosity and this is important, because it allows us to better understand how fundamental healthy eating is» concludes the chef Alessandro Saracino.

Various schools were involved: the first state teaching club “Nicola Fornelli”, the comprehensive institutes Caiati – Don Tonino Bello, Modugno – Rutigliano – Rogadeo, Sylos and Cassano – De Renzio and the Sacro Cuore institute.

The final party will be held on May 3rd to conclude the project. Representatives of organizations and institutions that supported and promoted the initiative will be present.
