The “Martian” is back and quotes Terminator. Ten years after his “expulsion” from the Democratic Party, the former mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino puts an end to his American “exile” and allows himself to be convinced by Nicola Fratoianni and Angelo Bonelli to break the oath that by his own admission he made to a nun : “I told her that if I ever thought of running again she would have to shoot me in the calf”, he says during the presentation press conference in the Foreign Press Room. The surgeon mayor, however, had to take a step back: “We live in a world in which a country that is a symbol of democracy like the USA, while almost all its citizens were watching the Superbowl, called Parliament to approve the allocation of over 80 billion for armaments to be sent to Ukraine and Israel”. If we add to this the “objectively dramatic” environmental situation, then “I considered it essential to lend a hand to our society and our continent”.
As per the character, the surgeon arrives on a bicycle and with a backpack on his shoulders. “In Italy during Covid we applauded doctors and nurses, now we cut back on healthcare and invest billions in cutting-edge military devices. What will we say to the citizens who we won’t be able to cure, ‘don’t worry, we have f35s anyway’?”, he attacks Marine. Who announces regarding migrants: “In our territory there are 10 Cpr, structures similar to criminal asylums, this cannot happen”. Then the quote you don’t expect: “I’m a big fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Terminator (the cult film directed by James Cameron and released in 1984, ed.), often when I was in the operating room I used to look around, put the thoughts and solemnly pronounce: ‘Ìm back'”.
Marino will be the head of the list in the Centro constituency. The other two candidates – presented in the new headquarters of the Foreign Press at Palazzo Grazioli in Rome – will be Sergio Ulgiati, professor of Chemistry of the Environment and Cultural Heritage at the Parthenope University of Naples and Fiorella Belpoggi, scientific director emeritus of the Ramazzini institute in Bologna.
