In Cagliari a new square dedicated to the scholar Roberto Coroneo

In the Castello district of Cagliari a new square named after Roberto Coroneo, scholar of medieval art history and dean of the faculty of literature and philosophy, who passed away at the age of 53 in 2011.

The ceremony, in the presence of family members and students, is presided over by the councilor with responsibility for toponymy Alessio Mereuwanted to represent «a heartfelt tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the research and dissemination of knowledge».

«With many initiatives – he explained Francesca Ghirradeputy and municipal councilor, among the architects of the proposal in 2022, then unanimously shared by the civic assembly to pay homage to the scholar – Coroneo has left an indelible mark in the field of historical-artistic studies and thanks to the publication of numerous articles and monographs he has contributed significantly to the understanding of the Sardinian cultural heritage».

The new Roberto Coroneo square, next to via Del Fossario, is a few steps from the area dedicated to the artist Maria Lai. «A symbolic place where the memory and intellectual legacy of this scholar will continue to live», underlined Mereu and Ghirra.
