Good Friday, for Christians, is the day of pain, waiting and mourning.
It is the symbol of death which, only on Sunday, will be transformed into resurrection and life.
Good Friday, for Caltanissetta, is the day in which religious fervor expands and that of the Lord of the City, co-patron saint of the city and recipient of prayers, ex-votos and requests for intercessions.
The simulacrum with the “Black Christ”, the crucifix found by the foliage workers in a cave in the suburban countryside, leaves the Sanctuary which is located in the San Francesco district and travels through the streets of the city.
Supporting the Crucifix in its golden canopy are the Fogliamari who, with bare feet and strong shoulders, sing their “ladate”.
Accompanying him were the Clergy, presided over by HE the Bishop Mons. Mario Russotto, the Royal Maestranza and his Captain Edoardo Cammarata, various associations, religious groups and the faithful.
All along the route the crowd embraces, with Passion and silent prayer, this procession which, at the same time, moves and comforts.
The procession will leave the church at 8.00 pm and will travel along: via Signore della Città, viale Amedeo, via Roma, via Mauro Tumminelli, via Paolo Emiliani Giudici, corso Vittorio Emanuele, via Re D’Italia, corso Umberto I, via Camillo Genovese, via Rome, viale Amedeo with arrival at the “Lord of the City” Sanctuary where HE the Bishop Monsignor Mario Russotto will impart the solemn blessing to all those present.
“Holy Week is a heritage of the city – concluded Mayor Gambino -. We are all custodians and holders of it, we all contribute, with our actions, with our behavior, to enhance it: let’s not waste this opportunity” and he concludes by inviting citizens to participate in large numbers.
