Happy for the team victory and for winning the first red jersey of the Vuelta 2024, immediately after the stage, Gaia Realini commented on the result as follows: «I’m happy for myself and of course for the team but I can’t be fully happy given the fall of my two teammates, I feel sorry for them. Today we achieved our goal, a route like today’s isn’t the best for me because it was very flat but the team had a perfect strategy that allowed us to win this stage. Now we have to focus on the next stages, we are certainly ready to defend La Roja in the next few days and we will try to maintain it until Madrid”
Australian Brodie Chapman also adds: «We are certainly feeling mixed emotions. Today we wanted to win and Ellen van Dijk was fundamental in this sense, as she made the longest and most demanding runs. It was unfortunate that she fell together with Elynor Backstedt just in sight of the finish line. Without that crash we would have won with a greater advantage, but in the end we saved the victory and for now this is enough for us. We made some mistakes, but we had a fantastic race. Now let’s just hope that Ellen and Elynor make a quick recovery. Seeing Gaia Realini in the Maglia Rossa so soon is truly exciting. She certainly came into the race in great shape and we know how strong she is in the mountains. We will simply try to win this race, as we do in every competition».
