We are the fox squadron of the Agesci Ragusa 7 scout group based at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We are working to acquire the squadron specialty of “Journalism”. To reach this goal, we planned to talk about BP Day and interview those present including our bishop, Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa.
BP Day is a World Scout anniversary for the birthday of Robert Baden Powell, the Founder of Scouting. This year it was held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where the Scout groups Ragusa 1, Ragusa 2 and Ragusa 7 met.
His Excellency the Bishop celebrated the holy mass and subsequently allowed us to ask him some questions. He was a scout in the past and had various experiences both as a scout and as an area assistant, celebrating masses for the Scouts, such as this one, which he celebrated at the beginning of the day.
We asked these questions to our Bishop:
Have you already had any experience with scouts?
«Yes, I am a scout, I joined when I grew up but then when I had the opportunity to experience scouting as an area assistant in Caltanissetta I celebrated BP Day many times and therefore the day of thought, which is a strong moment for the association and it is always a moment of reflection and restart to be experienced together.”
How do you think this day is going?
«We started it in the best way, and you can’t start a day better than by meeting the Lord; and therefore, for you too, starting this day with the celebration of the Eucharist is a spiritual charge that you receive to live today’s activities with the strength that comes from this celebration, and I am really happy to have been among you to celebrate this Eucharist”.
At the end of the interview our bishop spent some moments with all of us, connecting online with the groups from Santacroce and Marina di Ragusa who had to remain in their offices due to the bad weather.
