Our mission, therefore, consists in the defense territorial. We have a staff of over 800 people representing 23 of the 32 nations that make up NATO. The staff is made up of both military and civilians, all NATO employees. And, of course, we are hosted here in Italy, a country that provides us with considerable support for activities carried out locally. We also conduct missions and operations outside NATO territory. These include the mission in Iraq where we assist the Iraqi government in training its armed forces and police. of an operational mission but rather of a consultancy activity at an institutional level aimed at the management and development of the armed forces and the Iraqi police forces. We also hold responsibility for missions in the Balkans where we have three different offices that help maintain a safe environment in the region. We also have NATO representations in the African Union. We therefore do many things from this Command, all aimed at deterring adversaries and defending NATO territory.”
