Leaving waste on the street is a criminal offense punishable by very high fines. The Mayor Federico Basile does not intend to stand still and watch the disrespectful behavior of some citizens who, despite the trap cameras, continue to dispose of waste on the streets.
The municipal police, declared Basile, “every day it is committed to finding uncivilized people to sanction them but also to make them understand that keeping the city clean is everyone’s duty”. The presentation of the communication campaign #Machitelofafare conceived and promoted by Messina Servizi, it will start on Friday 29 March both on the subsidiary’s social networks and on the Municipality’s channels; in this regard, Mayor Basile stated that “It was designed to raise citizens’ awareness not to leave waste on the streets; it is unacceptable that the city must invest money and manpower to counter acts of incivility and irresponsibility of citizens who do not want to comply with the rules, which are fundamental for a civil society”.
Mariagrazia Interdonato President of Messina Servizi BeneComunehe expressed “great satisfaction for the fact that the month of February marked the record for separate waste collection, 58%, one point more than the previous record which was recorded in the month of April 2023”. This means, continued Interdonato, “that there were 300 tons less of unsorted waste, with a saving of around 120 thousand euros”. It doesn’t take much to reach the target threshold of 65%, continued Mariagrazia Interdonato, “which Messina, a virtuous city, has given itself and intends to achieve thanks also to various projects that are being implemented”. To achieve this, the collaboration of citizens is essential.
At the conclusion of her speech, Mariagrazia Interdonato “wanted to launch an appeal to all citizens so that, close to the Easter and Easter Monday holidays, while having fun and being in the company of friends and acquaintances and using the green spaces present in the city, we must pay attention to keeping our city clean” .
