Street units and identification activities, help desk services, reception, training and job placement. These are some of the actions implemented as part of the fifth edition of the Puglia non-trafficking project, created to combat any form of human exploitation and encourage its emergence and which has made the region a point of reference for anti-trafficking. The project is financed by the Puglia Region. The data, from 1 October 2022 to 31 January 2024, were released today in Bari.
Thousands of people have been contacted or accompanied to social and health services by the representatives of the temporary association made up of the Oasi2 San Francesco community, the leading entity, the Atuttotenda social cooperative, the Caps onlus social cooperative, the Giraffa Aps, the Medtraining social cooperative , by the Micaela onlus association and by the Pope John XXIII community association. During the 17 months of the project, numerous training sessions and webinars were organized on the national toll-free number.
Thanks to the project, the street units – involved in 459 outings – contacted 2,646 women, meeting 739 of them, mostly from Romania, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Colombia and South America. Furthermore, 1,823 men were contacted and 563 were met, mostly from Nigeria, Morocco, Ghana, Niger and Mali. Furthermore, 143 transsexual people were contacted and 28 were met, mostly from Italy and Brazil. The activities of the street units involved, among others, places such as the former Borgo Mezzanone runway (Manfredonia), the countryside of Stornarella, Stornara and Canosa, the industrial area of Cerignola, the Foggia ring road, the Circum Mar Piccolo (Taranto), the streets of the provinces of Lecce and Brindisi and those of the metropolitan city of Bari.
