Viterbo – Three bronze medals with one-way ticket to the ‘Criteria’ national swimming championships. The regional swimming finals took place in Rome on 22, 23 and 24 March. The three young people from Viterbo also took to the pool among the best athletes in Lazio. Pierluigi Bernabucci, 15 years old, competed in the 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle, winning the bronze medal in both categories. Viola Cortignani, 15 years old, also took third place with a bronze medal in the 400 medley. Finally the smallest of the group, 13 year old Giuseppe Stasolla, who came fourth in the 100 backstroke, but also participated in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

“The results of the great work we are doing can be seen – comments Pierluigi Bernabucci -. In fact, I didn’t expect to reduce my pool times so much.” Giuseppe Stasolla also shares the same opinion, describing himself as “very satisfied with the work we are doing together as a group”. With her eyes already set on the future, Viola Cortignani: “I am very happy with the result achieved in Rome, but there is still a lot to work on because I can do better.”

And the future, for all three young athletes from Viterbo, won’t be long in coming. With their results in the pool in Rome, Bernabucci, Cortignani and Stasolla qualified for the “Criteria” national championships scheduled at the Riccione swimming stadium from 5 to 10 April. There’s almost no time to unpack your bags from the trip to Rome, which is already time to pack them again towards the Romagna Riviera, to represent not only the team but the entire city of Viterbo.

The coach Lorenzo Biagini, 26 years old, will also leave for Riccione with them. “I have followed Pierluigi and Giuseppe since they made their debut, while I met Viola three years ago – explains Biagini -. Together we began a journey of reconstruction and rapprochement not only on an athletic level, but also on a personal level. This allowed us to get in tune and the results were visible.”

From Viterbo to Riccione, therefore, passing through Rome. What a long way for three very young and promising athletes.
