MONZA – The Sir Susa Vim Perugia is Italian champion. A complete, total success at the end of a season in which the team Angelo LorenzettiQuietly, he made all the available trophies his own.
Super Cup and Club World Cup at the start of the season in 2023, then Italian Cup and Championship at the start of 2024. All with a clear determination, never over the top, with patience and the ability to change and correct the team along the way .
Making the most of the bench, one of the factors that made the difference in this championship final series. A championship strongly desired also by Leon who left his mark in this series of finals: 25 points, 62% in attack.
Monza? Extraordinary, practically indomitable because, even if Eccheli’s team lost this match 4 by 3-1, they put an Umbrian team that was born to win and that left nothing to the others in a corner during the season. In the end, the Brianza team only sinned in having a shorter bench for an event like this. “Cachopa” received applause, stellar Maar, Takahashi, Galassi, Di Martino, Gaggini and Loeppky then took to the stage of the final as leading actors.

Lorenzetti’s Sir with Giannelli as director, Ben Tara opposite Russo and Flavio in the middle, Plotnytskyi and Semeniuk in place 4, Colaci libero.
THE MATCH – Balanced start with Perugia who gets a break with Di Martino’s serve out and Plotnytskyi’s counterattack: 6-8. Monza responds immediately, taking advantage in particular of Sir’s errors with Ben Tara and Plotnytskyi. At 14-12, with Takahashi serving, President Sirci also arrives at the palas late due to heavy traffic for the returns from the April 25th bridge towards Milan.
Monza’s block on Plotnytskyi (16-13) induces Lorenzetti to throw Leon into the fray. Monza defends him and counterattacks in the central streets with Galassi: 17-13, time out Sir. Two blocks from Galassi on Leon make the Mint take off: 20-14. Takahashi lucid supports to play again (22-18), Leon shoots out a pipe (23-18). The last point is a stroke by Maar, top scorer of the set with 6 points: 25-19. 4 for Galassi, Takahashi and Semeniuk, the most prolific of the Umbrians, guilty of conceded blocks (3-0) and in the calculation of errors: 5-8. Attack at 59% against 45% for Perugia with Plotnytskyi and Leon at 25% and 33%.
Perugia confirms Leon in the starting six with Plotnytskyi, Semeniuk on the bench, while Monza holds the initiative even if Russo makes himself felt with the block. Eccheli’s Mint extends thanks to the magic of Cachopa who sends Loeppky to attack in two without a block, then Maar stops Ben Tara with a block at one at 12-7. Lorenzetti sends Herrera onto the pitch.
Leon it catches fire and Perugia scores 16-16. They continue tied until 21-21 with Monza holding its side out well until the entry of Held to the service that causes trouble for Maar’s reception. Cachopa raises directly on the Perugian pitch and Herrera doesn’t have to wait: 21-23. Maar hits with an acrobatics (23-23), Leon is irrepressible: 23-24. Sir’s break is immediate: 4-7. Still on the pitch with Herrera and Leon. Leon himself scores 3 of Sir’s first 7 points. Three defenses by Gaggini galvanize Monza who come back in the wake: 7-8.
The attack of Perugia’s high ball men takes over: 10-14, with Leon and Plotnytskyi dictating the law. Sir’s maximum advantage at this stage is 11-16. Giannelli mocks Gaggini with a short serve, Sir’s gap widens: 13-19. Monza halves the gap (17-20) with Maar attacking Cachopa’s very quick ball, but Leon responds. Monza’s block is now less incisive (20-24) but takes advantage of Perugia’s errors and Takahashi’s turn of service to get back to 24–24 with Di Martino blocking Flavio and Plotnytskyi thus canceling the 4th set ball. Lorenzetti also sends Semeniuk to the receiving end. Takahashi cancels the 5th set ball in the pipe. Vibrant final with Flavio who sets up the first half then Monza reconstructs his ball exchange as best he can after Plotnytskyi’s serve bends Gaggini. Maar puts it out: 25-27. Perugia holds the field well in attack. Top scorer of the set Loeppky with 7, Leon 6, Maar and Plotnytskyi 5. Monza with 50% in attack, 3 blocks, 2 aces, Perugia with 57% and 20 ground balls, 1 block, 1 ace.
All Perugia inertia at the start of the fourth set (Herrera still on the court): 0-3, and Eccheli immediately spends a time out. Galassi stops Leon on the block, Giannelli returns to the center with Flavio: 5-9. It’s a push and pull with Mint Vero Volley who wants to stay there.
