The Provincial Health Authority of Catanzaro, with note prot. n. 38150 of 03/27/2024, communicated the unfavorable outcome of the analyzes conducted by the Food Hygiene and Nutrition Unit on one of the seven water samples taken from the town of Sant’Eufemia Lamezia
Press release
The results of the analyzes revealed that the iron parameter was too high, therefore, at present, the water is not drinkable in Piazza Italia. Multiservizi, which manages the water service, has notified the citizens of Sant’Eufemia, residing in via Montello, traversa del Mare, via Juri Gagarin, via Martin Luther King, via Gaileri, via Zanellati, via Minerva, via Giovanni XXIII, viale Europa, via Vincenzo Padula, piazza Italia and neighboring streets, NOT to use water for food purposes,
Communication was only made via social media, but not through a more widespread dissemination of the non-potability of water towards those citizens unable to use the internet and who unknowingly risk using water. Unfortunately, it is often forgotten that in the population there are also groups of people who, not being able to use social media, risk being cut off from the municipality’s official communications.
Non-potable water in Piazza Italia is nothing new, because it is well known that the water network in the Sant’Eufemia area historically has iron residues due to obsolete pipes. It can be seen that in recent days these parameters have had a stronger response.
All this, however, demonstrates that the municipal administration, in pursuit of easy electoral consensus, has missed a historic opportunity, that of using PNRR funds for a structural renewal of the water and sewerage networks.
The Democratic Party has long called for more incisive action on underground and wastewater works, but has not found in the municipal council the ability to listen for a profound renewal of the city.
