TERAMO. Funds for the redevelopment of the old stadium are doubled. In fact, the resources available for the Municipality’s recovery intervention are destined to increase from 7.3 to almost 14 million euros. The administration is awaiting confirmation of the additional allocation from the Government, after the first green light received during a meeting in Rome in which it participated Giovanni Cavallari shortly before formalizing his resignation as councilor for public works to take on the role of group leader in the “Abruzzo Insieme” Region, the list from which he was elected in the March 10 session. On the basis of what was agreed with the technicians of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the resources available and not yet used for the so-called “tender for the suburbs” which originally also included interventions relating to cycle connections will be channeled into the recovery of the old stadium between the center and the peripheral neighborhoods.
The project for the Municipality
The availability expressed in words during the meeting in Rome must be followed shortly, according to the timing indicated by the administration, by the provision certifying the allocation of further funds. The definition of the project for the reuse of the plant will also depend on this. Doubling the resources would make it possible to expand the intervention being examined, in the preliminary phase, by the Campania-Lazio consortium which was awarded the design task. The group headed by the Roman engineer Gianluca Centurani and to Engineering&Consulting Srl which is based in Afragola, in the province of Naples, with the participation of three other professionals, Cesidio Serafini And Charalambos Campoloalso from Rome, e Massimo Falcinelli of Perugia, has started the analysis of the structure for the drafting of a feasibility study which will be followed by the other design phases up to the procurement of the works. The indications provided by the administration envisage a capacity of around two thousand spectators with the synthetic grass pitch to be used in particular for youth football and rugby. One of the aspects to be explored concerns the conservation of the historic grandstand. The solution suggested by the designers goes in this direction, but at the moment the availability of around five million for the works, net of other expenses, does not allow certainties in this sense. With the doubling of resources, however, the administration will also be able to give the green light to the redevelopment of the stands on the Split side of the ring road. It will also be possible, at that point, to increase the capacity of the system.
The plan for the sports hall
Still on the sports facilities front, the Municipality is evaluating further solutions for the assignment of management of the Scapriano sports hall. After the tenders that fell on deaf ears in recent years, when no company presented offers to take charge of the imposing structure, the councilor Alessandra Ferri focuses on the project financing formula. This would be aimed at the implementation of a solution by private investors that allows the use of renewable energy sources, in particular photovoltaic panels, for light and heating. This is a solution that would allow us to reduce bill costs, thus overcoming the main obstacle to entrusting the management of the arena whose energy costs are particularly heavy. The building was also taken into consideration as a space for the drama season, as an alternative to the theater to be renovated, but the logistical difficulties discouraged its use.
