TRIESTE. «Promote discussion between institutions, businesses and stakeholders in order to develop concrete proposals to enhance attractiveness on foreign markets; place the specificities and excellences of individual territories as a common denominator, transforming them into a growth lever for the country system; meet the challenges of the future, in particular on the innovation and sustainability fronts, developing strategies that are an expression of the synergistic work between the different institutional levels”.
This is the “roadmap” outlined on Thursday 28 March by Massimiliano Fedriga, in the dual roles of governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia and president of the Conference of the Regions, during the presentation of the second edition of “Selecting Italy”. The event, organized by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, benefits from the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy and will be held at the Generali Convention Center in Trieste on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th April. Numerous authorities were present at the launch press conference, held at the Sala Capranichetta in Piazza Montecitorio in Rome, including the deputy minister of Mimit Valentino Valentini, the general commissioner for Italy at Expo Osaka 2025 Mario Vattani and the president of the Transatlantic Investment Committee Andrea Gumina.
«If in recent years Friuli Venezia Giulia has managed to achieve important results in terms of foreign direct investments, tripling its percentage impact on the national figure (from 2 to 6.3%) and increasing the dossiers of potential investors, the future commitment – according to Fedriga – cannot be limited to strengthening these statistics with an exquisitely localistic vision, but must on the contrary turn to the definition of more broad-spectrum policies which, I am thinking of the Special Economic Zones and the Simplified Logistics Zones, can significantly impact our competitiveness not only as a Region but as a Country. Hence the decision to focus with ever greater conviction on ‘Selecting Italy’, a platform of ideas which had already expressed its potential in the first edition of January 2023 and which today, with the April program in hand, testifies to having further rooted and evolved” .
In detail of the event, institutional interventions will alternate on Monday 8 April, including those of the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti and the deputy minister of Mimit Valentino Valentini, four workshops on regional value chains and two round tables; On the calendar for Tuesday 9 April are the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the Minister of Enterprise Adolfo Urso and the Minister for Public Administration Paolo Zangrillo, the “keynote speech” of the CEO of Fincantieri Pierroberto Folgiero, two focus topics on the US and Japanese markets and an in-depth analysis of the Big Science Business Forum 2024 as a meeting point between the world of research and business.

The presence of the regional council is also significant, with the councilors Sergio Emidio Bini, Riccardo Riccardi and Alessia Rosolen engaged in coordination roles of workshops and round tables: specifically, Bini will measure himself with the attraction of innovative companies and talents and with sustainability climate-energy, Riccardi will deal with investments, research and technological transfer in the field of life sciences, while Rosolen will follow the theme of supercomputing to attract investments. The “Selecting Italy” program and how to register for the event are available on the website www.regione.fvg.it, while the live streaming will be broadcast on the Region’s YouTube channel “Fvg Convegni&Conanze”.
