Emiliano promulgates a key law for the water service

President Michele Emiliano signed LR 14, a fundamental regulation for the optimization of the management of the integrated water service in Puglia. The law, intended for publication in the Regional Bulletin, introduces a unitary management model for the water service, involving the municipalities in the capital of Acquedotto Pugliese (Aqp).

The main innovation concerns the possibility for municipalities to form a special purpose vehicle with public participation, with the aim of centralizing the management of water infrastructures. The Region supports this initiative with a fund of 400 thousand euros for the share capital and a further contribution of 300 thousand euros for the company’s operations.

The law also provides for the gradual passage of Acquedotto Pugliese shares to the municipalities, which in turn will transfer them to the special purpose vehicle, underlining the Region’s commitment to supporting the municipalities to guarantee the efficiency of the service.

A Coordination and Control Committee will be established to supervise the special purpose vehicle, ensuring compliance with the regulations and objectives set, with a three-year mandate.

President Emiliano underlined the importance of water as a public good and praised the role of Acquedotto Pugliese, highlighting the importance of this law to guarantee the quality of the water service to the citizens of Puglia.
