In 2023, out of 266 Italian B Corp engaged in the transformation of the economic system towards an increasingly inclusive and regenerative paradigm, Lombardy will take first place in the ranking with 95 B Corp

Lombardy is the region with the highest number of B Corp in Italy: this is what emerges from the report produced from B Lab Italia, the non-profit organization that coordinates the B Corp movement in Italy. With a total of 95 companies out of 266, Lombardy will be in first place at the end of 2023followed by Emilia Romagna, with 39 B Corp companies, and followed by Veneto, where there are 33 companies.

In detail, among the provinces with the highest number of B Corp in Lombardy, Milan stands out with 64 companies, followed by Bergamo (9), Sondrio (5), Como, Brescia and Monza Brianza (3 each).

As far as leading sectors within the region go, it stands out among them all the manufacturing industry, with 24 companies, and the professional and technical services industry, with 13 companies. They then follow business consultancy, communication and information services, which each have 11 B Corps within them.

According to the data, Lombardy therefore seems to be on the right track, with a substantial number of companies deciding to commit to generating a positive impact on the entire economic, environmental and social ecosystem and, above all, to pay particular attention to continuous improvement of its performance. An improvement that also translates into the desire on the part of B Corp to measure their progress over time and continue to improve practices and processes, also through the tools provided by B Lab.

If Lombardy represents a particularly performing region in terms of innovation towards sustainability, at an Italian level the trend towards sustainable and regenerative transition is increasingly consolidated, with Italy which at the end of 2023 is in second place in the European Union with 266 B Corp, preceded by France, with 376 companies, and tied with the Netherlands. A continuous commitment and growth that does not stop: in March 2024, in fact, the Italian B Corp movement has come to count 279 B Corp that employ over 25,000 people in 74 different industries, generating a turnover that exceeds 14 billion euros .

“This year too, Lombardy confirms itself as the leader of the most virtuous Italian regions dedicated to increasingly committing themselves to a truly positive impact on the environment, people and the community. In our country, more than anywhere else, we boast of an entrepreneurial fabric of small and medium-sized businesses that have a vision based on sustainability in their DNA, approaching the values and principles, including operational and organizational ones, of the B Corp movement. We are confident that Lombardy can be a virtuous example for all the other companies in our country”, commented Anna Puccio, Managing Director of B Lab Italia.
