Chanel presented its autumn-winter 2024-2025 haute couture show at the Palais Garnier, the first after the announcement a few days ago of the departure of the artistic director of the maison, Virginie Viard, who was taken over by the Fashion Design Studio – the style office – to design the new collection, awaiting the announcement of the next artistic director. On the catwalk set up in the sumptuous Parisian theatre, the French fashion house unveiled its new haute couture silhouettes inspired by opera and ballet (of which Chanel has long been a great supporter) as well as the theater dress code, while – like every season – numerous celebrities crowded the front row.

The luxury version of Chanel denim overalls sported by singer Angèle

Among the celebrities present for the occasion was the Belgian singer Angelewho was wearing denim overalls Chanel in contact with the skin: a completely new version of a casual and functional garment, usually worn with just a t-shirt underneath (even casually half-tied), and now transformed into a luxury model. Elegant as a dress, the Chanel dungarees are made of dark blue denim, in a single piece without a waistline, and embellished with logo stitching on the pockets.

The model vaguely resembles the suit designed in 1920 by Ernesto Michahelles, aka Thayaht: with a T shape and a “straight lines” cut, it blended aesthetics and functionality, between Deco and Bauhaus taste. A workwear and unisex garment with clean and simple lines, and visionary at the time: “a one-piece combination with minimal stitching” that could be worn elegantly, with the addition of a belt at the waist.

Angèle regularly wears clothes from the French fashion house, which designed the first stage costumes for the Belgian singer. At the 2023 Met Gala, which paid homage to the great Karl Lagerfeld, the artist opted for a long, vaporous black dress with surprising cut-outs, while she preferred a naked dress at the Billboard Women ceremony in the same year.
