Princess Anne, 73-year-old sister of King Charles III and second daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was hospitalized in the last few hours following a domestic accident defined as not serious. Buckingham Palace announced this by specifying that the princess suffered “minor bruises” at her residence in Gatcombe Park, in English Gloucestershire, but she was still kept for now “under observation at the Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure “.
The palace does not specify the nature of the accident, but according to the BBC, the sovereign’s sister – a passionate horsewoman, with a past at a competitive level in horse riding – appears to have been hit by one of her beloved horses.
The incident represents a further tile, albeit minor, for the Royal Family, already dealing with the recent cancer diagnoses of King Charles and the Princess of Wales, Kate, wife of the heir to the throne William. Anna, a senior member of the House of Windsor who is particularly active in roles representing the monarchy, is expected to leave at the end of the week for a mission to Canada, a country still linked to the British crown: a mission which at this point could theoretically be postponed.
