The (triumphal) return of Kate Middleton, the parade with great pomp (a thousand soldiers and 200 horses), the little princes putting on a show but above all the Royal Family gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace despite the difficult moment of illness and quarrels, see voice Harry and Meghan. The Trooping the Color could symbolize – experts predicted – the decline of the British royals, marked by the cancer diagnoses of King Charles and Kate Middleton, however the traditional event celebrating the sovereign’s birthday was such a triumph that it crashed the live broadcast of the Daily Mail and, for the thousands of subjects gathered to applaud, the photograph of the Windsors who, like any family, resist despite the unfortunate contingencies.
The people’s princess
He announced it, and he did it, in style as when times were better. Kate Middleton, who has lost weight and is certainly affected by chemotherapy (“there are good days and less good days”, she declared yesterday) but still shining in a dress with a Jenny Packham bow, leaves the house with her children, fixes Charlotte’s hair, she smiles from the carriage at those who have come to greet her. A little thoughtful in the moments when she is not in the frame, but it is the only “luxury” she allows herself: «I am learning to be patient, especially with uncertainty – she declared – Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body , and allowing myself to take this necessary time to heal.” The Princess of Wales is the future queen and is not afraid to parade before the eyes of the world despite the repercussions of the therapy: a message of hope for those in the same situation but above all for those who, like various royal experts, claimed that she would no longer be returned to its previous role. On her balcony King Charles, who shared the fight against cancer with her, reserves her place of honor for her, the one on her right, and laughs and jokes with his beloved daughter-in-law.
The looks
Classic with a black and white dress that echoed that of her daughter Charlotte (delightful in a nautical style), Kate as always showed off almost the only look that was talked about: a Jenny Packham model with bow and matching Philip Treacy hat, the royal favorite also chosen by Camilla. The queen married sobriety and light colors, with a pale green crepe suit by Anna Valentina in stark contrast to the legendary looks of Elizabeth II. A mood not understood by Sophie of Edinburgh with her lemon yellow and not even by her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, who focused too convincingly on sustainability and recycled the look of the King’s coronation (perhaps this wasn’t really the occasion right).
The absent
Missing from the photograph of the family united despite adversity are, for obvious reasons, Meghan and Harry, who remained in the United States and who, however, were not “working royals” and would not have been allowed on the balcony. And the “rude” of the day arrived (precisely) from the other side of the ocean. While London was in the midst of the celebrations, the Sussexes, through their polo player friend Nacho Figueiras, unveiled two new products from Meghan’s brand “American Orchard”: jam and dog biscuits (raise your hand if you’re not smiling).
