Zerocalcare is not opening a restaurant in Garbatella in Rome, but has only taken a share of the place to lend a hand to some friends. He himself clarified this in a story on Instagram after being inundated with requests following the publication of the news in all the newspapers. «In any case, for those who ask me, I’m not about to open a tavern, due to obvious gastro-entrepreneurial shortcomings. I took a share in a place that will open because I wanted to contribute and lend a hand to a project that involves friends of mine and people I trust”, explains the cartoonist in an Instagram story.
The restaurant
The reference is to «Osteria Sauli», the restaurant that will open in the heart of Garbatella and which has four partners behind it: the innkeeper Antonello Magliari, the chefs Antonello Abruzzese and Stefania Pinto and, indeed, Zerocalcare. Not a simple restaurant, but a space with a very specific social objective: helping women victims of violence. «Michele’s idea, which we immediately accepted and shared, was to open a real Roman tavern in one of the most authentic neighborhoods of Rome but also to create the conditions to be useful from a social point of view», explained Magliari. And from here was born the collaboration with the Casa delle donne Lucha y Siesta, a well-known structure in Rome committed to welcoming women victims of violence.
