The theft of Fabio Rovazzi’s phone? Just an advertising idea. Yesterday the singer’s creativity sent the city of Milan into a tailspin, which gave wide media coverage to the “fake theft” of the artist’s device during an Instagram live broadcast: “I thought of a fun marketing idea to use to launch the release of my song with Il Pagante in an unusual way, without foreseeing that this could create such a large media short circuit. I only staged a bar of the piece we wrote / I was walking around Corso Como / A man approached / He asked me for a Marlboro and the watch / I don’t know what time it is / I feel an emptiness in my pocket / They grabbed me ( they robbed me)/ With a motorbike/ Now I only have one dream/ I would like to become like one of them/ A Maranza’”.

Maranza, born from the sample of the iconic 90s dance hit Think about the way, is the faithful photograph and irreverent features of the typical Milanese maranza: mirrored lenses with iridescent colours, shoulder bag on the chest, valuable watches and necklaces, tracksuit acetate and designer sneakers with rigorous contrasting sock. And, given the media coverage of the theft, the idea for launching the song worked well.
