Genoa. An internal road that connects the entrance to Valletta Carbonara available to all citizens, and then new classrooms, one gymone cafeteria and above all a new one university residence. There are five interventions, already underway or awaiting funding, with which the University of Genoa aims to transform theHotel for the Poor in the new big humanities campus and social issues of the Ligurian capital and of the entire Liguria. A project that will see approximately 5,200 students from the faculties of Law, Political Science and Languages ​​converge in the 1,600-year-old structure.

The former Albergo dei Poveri is currently owned by Asp Emanuele Brignole, who assigned most of the six floors on which the building is spread over to the University, with the granting of surface rights until 2052. Between 2020 and 2021 the University has developed a series of projects aimed at creating a new and modern equipped campus. The details of the construction sites were illustrated during a site inspection of the Council Committee on Culture of the Municipality.

An “artistic path” to connect the Albergo dei Poveri to Valletta Carbonara

We start from internal road which will connect Piazzale Brignole to Valletta Carbonara, a 120 meter long route that crosses the Albergo dei Poveri financed under Pinqua: the university is the implementing body for the Municipality, and the works must necessarily be completed by 31 December 2025.

A worthwhile project 5.7 million euros, almost all of which has already been financed, for which preliminary remediation work is underway, having detected the presence of asbestos. At the end of the work, students and citizens will be able to arrive in Valletta Carbonara through an illuminated tunnel with walls that will host artistic installations and projections.

Inside the Albergo dei Poveri, however, the construction site for the construction of a new building will begin shortly gym on the ground floor: three rooms and 500 square meters of training space, a 2.1 million euro project financed at 60% whose work should begin by the end of June. Added to this is the creation of a new one cafeteriaalso on the ground floor, and one new “strip” of classrooms: the objective, explained the vice-rector Claudio Carmeli, is to optimize resources: “It is unthinkable today to reserve classrooms for just one faculty – he underlined during the inspection – Students from three faculties will meet at the Albergo dei Poveri, clearly not all together at the same time.”

The other particularly important construction site is the one that responds to one of the primary needs of students: accommodation. A new building will therefore be built on the fourth floor of the east wing of the Albergo dei Poveri residence with 96 beds in 42 double rooms, the works of which will go hand in hand with the construction of the 180-seat canteen.

In this case the construction site is valid 10.5 million euros 75% financed with Pnrr funds. The student residence will cover 1,900 square metres, the canteen will cover 1,120, and the works, taking into account the time needed for the award, must be completed. by the end of 2026.
