The design

The design of the new BMW S 1000 XR S has been carefully renewed to give it an even more dynamic and aggressive appearance. Aerodynamic lines, thoughtful details and a compact posture give the bike an elegance that captures attention wherever it goes. The rear features new side panels and air intakes inspired by sports bikes, while the radiator shroud now features a textured surface and the previously black, now body-coloured “beak” fender. To ensure greater freedom of movement, the saddle has been revised: it now offers 10 mm more height (850 mm) and offers more space on the seat, increasing the length and useful width, allowing better adjustment of the position depending on the conditions driving. The latter is available in three heights (with optional lowering to 790 mm) and is certainly one of the fundamental parameters for those of reduced stature. Furthermore, the 6.5″ color TTF display provides immediate access to all essential riding information, ensuring an intuitive and distraction-free riding experience. The high handlebar is wide and well positioned, with easily accessible controls.

The engine

The beating heart of the BMW S 1000 has been increased by 5 HP, going from 165 HP to the current 170 HP at 11,000 rpm. The main reasons for the increased performance are an optimized geometry of the intake channels and customized mapping. The maximum torque generated is still 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. Thanks to its in-line four-cylinder architecture, this engine offers extraordinary thrust in all driving conditions with robust torque at all speeds. Coupled with a sports exhaust system, the roar of the engine adds an extra touch of emotion with every acceleration.

Cycling

The 4-cylinder of the new model from the Bavarian company is combined with a chassis double beam in composite aluminum with open cradle, integrated with a 45 mm upside down telescopic fork with electronically adjustable compression and rebound damping. The braking system includes a pair of 320 mm 4-piston discs at the front, as well as a 265 mm 2-piston floating caliper at the rear. The rims also derive directly from the S 1000 RR units, with an overall weight saving of 1.8 kg for a total of 17% compared to the previous ones. The 17″ aluminum alloy wheels with a 120/70 tire at the front and 190/55 at the rear ensure good agility and cornering. Technology on board

The S 1000 XR is equipped with a wide range of advanced technologies designed to improve safety, comfort and driving enjoyment. The dynamic traction control system, suspension control and riding mode selector allow you to adapt the motorcycle to your preferences and road conditions. As standard in the new arrival we find the Dynamic Exa (semi-active suspension), but the automatic preload adjustment and the two different suspension modes are sold with an optional package, called the Dynamic Esa Pro package. To keep this explosion of torque at bay, we find a complete electronic package, which features three driving modes: Rain, Road and Dynamic. As part of the standard equipment, Headlight Pro ensures greater safety during night rides thanks to its adaptive cornering lights, which illuminate the road as soon as the motorcycle begins to lean to enter a bend. The standard package also includes the Keyless Ride system and the battery with a capacity of 12 Ah plus the USB charging socket. The ergonomic driving position, the adjustable windshield and the grip heating system ensure a pleasant driving experience even on long journeys. How is it going

The BMW S 1000 It takes a spirit of adventure and a desire to get involved, but it has all the good intentions to be a good companion. The ergonomics are well studied, the riding position is correct, the triangulation of the saddle, footrests and handlebars is good, which determines a comfortable riding position with a slightly inclined torso. The TFT instrumentation is clear in all conditions, while the blocks are intuitive and reachable without any difficulty. The protection from the air is excellent and as far as vibrations are concerned they are only felt at low speeds. The engine already offers good torque at low revs and allows linear acceleration; it is very flexible and accepts going down to 2,500 in sixth gear without any particular problems and even forgives beginner’s mistakes if you inadvertently slip into the wrong gear in a bend. Once you exceed 7,000 rpm it becomes really angry but at the same time adrenaline-filled. When braking, the intervention of the double 320 mm front disc is modulable and if well squeezed guarantees reassuring decelerating power. The behavior of the suspensions is also consistent, as they know how to read the conditions of the road surface in real time, but also the driver’s driving style, reassuring him in every situation; in many sections covered during the test characterized by noticeable potholes he was able to digest the road surface well. The road holding, even on fast bends, confirms the excellent qualities of the “millona”, as does the agility in mixed terrain, considering the size of the bike. When it comes to comfort while travelling, the new XR still holds its own well. A motorbike with which you immediately enter into symbiosis, enjoying the beautiful full roar of its 4 cylinders.
