The hottest and coldest nations in the world — idealista/news

Visual Capitalist has developed a graph to show the Hottest and coldest countries in the world (and some territories) based on their average temperature in 2022. The data is provided by Trading Economics and highlights how the average annual temperature of Burkina Faso is just above 29 °C, making it the hottest nation according to this parameter.

The location of Burkina Faso, tropical and far from the ocean, determines a long dry season and a short rainy season. As a result, temperatures rise. In fact, five of the top 10 hottest countries are in the same region that includes parts of the Sahara Desert.

At the other end of the scale, the Greenland recorded an average temperature of -18.6°C, making it the coldest jurisdiction in the data set. Interestingly, seven of the eight coldest countries or territories contain lands within the Arctic Circle.

In Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, mountainous and far from the coast, temperatures can fluctuate between the two extremes. While this means very cold winters, in summer, parts of both countries see temperatures rise up to 40°C.

The world as a whole recorded an average temperature of 14.8°C (58°F) in 2022, the sixth warmest year since global measurements began. That temperature was 0.8°C (1.5°F) warmer than the 20th century average.
