Matteo Salvini’s interview with Otto e mezzo, in the Wednesday 5 June episode of the La7 talk, continues on social media. There was no shortage of moments of harsh conflict between the deputy prime minister, minister and leader of the League and the presenter Lilli Gruber and one of the programme’s regular commentators, Massimo Giannini. For Salvini, Urbano Cairo’s network is certainly not synonymous with impartiality and political equidistance, and he did not hide his thoughts during the interview. Accusations of bias to which Gruber replies live: “This is a network full of journalists who do their job seriously every single day, asking questions. Even for you politicians it is better that journalists are not on their knees.” Salvini replies: “From morning to night there is a factionalism that I have never seen even in broadcasters in other countries.” The presenter doesn’t give up: “Rai too, today..”, she states, bringing up the public service (but wasn’t it TeleMeloni? Mysteries).

As mentioned, what was broadcast yesterday becomes material for social media today. Salvini posted the video of what we talked about above, edited together with another spat that took place during the broadcast. In fact, Giannini maintains that “it is not true that whoever wins is always right, this is true in America and Italy. You have this tendency here, to think that if someone has won they are always right”. “So let’s abolish elections, that’s how it works in a democracy…. What do we do, let’s draw lots who governs?”, replies the leader of the League. “In short, the result of the elections is only valid if it goes in the direction they like – comments Salvini on social media posting the La7 video – Nothing new! On Saturday and Sunday with the massive vote in the LEGA you risk driving them crazy!”, is the appeal for the European elections on 8 and 9 June.
