It is possible to teach the importance of cancer prevention at school: the IC “Caiatino” of Caiazzo believes in it, headed by director Silvana Santagata who, for Saturday 6 April, has organized a day of in-depth study on the topic with experts and volunteers. The event, entitled “The power of prevention in the post-pandemic era. I dreamed of a black monster”, will be held in Ruviano and will be divided into two sessions: the morning one (from 9am to 12pm) at the school building dedicated to children and the afternoon one (from 3pm to 7pm), open to the public and families, which will take place at the Alvignanello Multipurpose Centre.

Moments of reflection and exchange of opinions on the importance of prevention, education and information starting from correct eating habits, up to the value of early prevention, screening and the fundamental contribution that comes from the worlds of psychotherapy and psychology to deal with the disease and what it entails for patients and their loved ones. Local institutional representatives will take part – such as the mayor Angelo Coppola and the city councilor Dr. Valentina Vecchiarelli also acting as Gastroenterologist of the Caserta Hospital – and professionals of caliber and sector such as the oncologist, researcher and medical director of the ASP of Cosenza Dr. Ivano Schito; the head of the Breast Unit of Caserta and specialist in General and Plastic Surgery, Dr. GianPaolo Pitruzzella; the internist and geriatrician of the Ospedale del Mare and president of the Alice Campania Association, Dr. Carolina Bologna; the pediatrician Dr. Antonello Puorto; the emergency medicine specialist, medical director of the UOC of the Castrovillari Hospital (CS), Dr. Maria Antonietta Santagata; the psychologist and psychotherapist Dr. Orsola Farina; the teacher of Motor Education Prof. Antonio Popolizio; the expert in Oncological Aesthetics Lucia Covino; the president of the Icare Social Cooperative of Cerreto Sannita Don Matteo Prodi and the nutritional biologist Dr. Rossella Almaviva. The teacher and journalist Federica Landolfi will coordinate the sessions, moments which in the afternoon will be alternated and also enlivened by spaces
dedicated to music, culture and fashion. In this last case, in fact, the Atelier Donna Luna of Telese Terme has shown full collaboration by providing clothes that will be worn by women who are facing the delicate and courageous path of the disease. On the sidelines of the meeting, the kit for the prevention of colorectal cancer from the Caserta Local Health Authority will be delivered and oncology, nutrition and brain visits and consultations will be carried out upon reservation.

“The second edition of an event that I care a lot about – comments Principal Santagata – at a time when we are ‘recovering’ from the forced stop of Covid, a historical and difficult moment which has unfortunately stopped many families and many sick people also in relation to the prevention and controls. Educating children and families to take care of themselves and respect their bodies is one of the most important duties that schools must respect and spread. I thank those who are giving us a hand to make the event a success.”
