On the eve of his public birthday, King Charles gets an important victory over cancer. In fact, the doctors gave it to him permission to leave for Australia. This is the first intercontinental trip he has undertaken as a Sovereign and it is of enormous importance to him.

Good news finally arrives in Corte which marks a fundamental step towards the resumption of normality. The doctors who treated Carlo for cancer gave the green light for travel to Australia and New Zealand.
A source at the Palace said that having obtained permission from the doctors, “the King instructed the staff to carry out the plans for the visit at full speed”. And he continued: “His health is improving and he feels confident that he will be able to participate in the event”, i.e. the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be held between 21 and 25 October in Samoa.

His Majesty’s assistants therefore stand reviewing the trip plan and they have started preliminary plans which include site visits in preparation for the tour which will however be reduced compared to the original plan, because obviously Carlo’s illness and the treatments he must undergo are taken into account, even if the doctors have given him permission to start.
The trip was already planned before Carlo’s cancer diagnosis, so preparations came to a halt while waiting to see how the disease developed. Her Majesty was particularly keen to leave because she believed that his presence was crucial to ensure the unity of the Commonwealth, as a Palace insider explained.
“The presence of the Monarch at the CHOGM is seen as instrumental in preserving the unity of the Commonwealth. Charles believes it is important to show his support for the Commonwealth and demonstrate what it can do for its member countries. He wants to highlight the positive aspects of being part of the union and dispel the myth that the Commonwealth is just a colony.”
Obviously next to him there will be Camilla who seems to be already anxious, not so much about the trip itself, but because she is convinced that her husband will not be able to save his energy, even though the tour program will be reduced and studied to allow the Sovereign to rest and heal.

In fact, the Queen has publicly complained several times about how undisciplined Charles is and how he shows no regard for himself, determined as he is to carry out his duties as King. Probably, in this need to give everything for the Monarchy, there ‘is the intent to demonstrate that he is worthy of the throne inherited from his mother, Elizabeth, a Queen who is difficult to match.
The disease undoubtedly weakened Charles’ reign, even if in some way it brought him closer to his subjects, some of whom however did not recognize his authority. And so unfortunate episodes occur such as that of the activists who defaced the portrait of the Sovereign to raise awareness of animal rights.
