Mauro Corona recounted one of the worst experiences of his life, his childhood was a real drama

Bianca Berlinguer’s regular guest, Mauro Corona, shocked everyone with the story of the worst experience of his life. Before going on TV, however, Mauro was already very cknown in Italy because of his publications. He was born as a writer: mountain stories, animals, and fairy tales.

Corona’s stories are simple, they can be read even by the little ones, but it is precisely at the bottom of that simplicity that his extremely sensitive, mountain-loving soul is hidden.

“When I climb, bad thoughts come to mind, those who challenge the mountain have something unresolved inside themselves” Corona told allevent “Pordenonelegge, the book festival with authors”.

In fact, this is how his most intimate story began. That rough man, with the beard and long hair; mountain man, who does not come from the luxury of the city, but from the simplicity of a life in contact with nature, it is he who amazes with the wisdom of someone who has truly lived life, far from comfort. During the literature event it was he who told the story the background on his extremely difficult childhood.

Mauro Corona told his past: a childhood denied

“I started drinking and writing because my father was some kind of dictator and it made me go through all the experiences of terror” Corona said in 2022, on the occasion of Pordenonelegge, maintaining detachment.

“When I was a child he took me by the jacket and made me dangle in the air holding me only with one finger, to teach me courage […] Anyone who has had their childhood stolen cannot get away unscathed and I said to myself: either I’ll shoot myself or I’ll have them tell me stories.”

The writer and regular guest of Bianca Berlinguer talks about family violence

Writing saved him, but not entirely, because some traumas were too strong and in the end he vented them through alcoholism. “You don’t get over childhood traumas – he explained – and in fact I entered the dimension of alcohol and I’m still there”.

There were three children, then abandoned due to the completely unstable family situation. “My father was violent, my mother ended up in a coma three times due to his beatings” said the writer, and once you experience such scenes, especially if you are a child, facing life becomes a climb. By climbing through life, Mauro also began to climb mountains, and the mountains saved him from his past.
