The friend was denied by the town administration: she had claimed that BB wanted to be buried in the villa. And while the political controversy rages, the fate of the inheritance between the (neglected) son and his foundation is also uncertain
The funeral of Brigitte Bardot, passed away yesterday, Sunday 28 December, at the age of 91, will be held on Wednesday 7 January in the church of Notre-Dame de
l’Assomption in Saint-Tropez, followed by a «private burial and
confidential”. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced this to the France Presse agency. The actress will rest in the marine cemetery of Saint-Tropez, where her parents are already buried: this is what sources from the municipality of Saint-Tropez quoted by the France Presse agency report.
The news reported this morning to franceinfo by the journalist and friend of BB, Wendy Bouchard, according to which the actress sshe would have been buried in her garden near the sea. Bardot herself had
expressed the hope of “resting” at La Madrague, the historic Saint-Tropez estate he owns. Bardot’s inner circle is in the area preparing for the funeral. Details regarding the funeral have not yet been released.
These are not the only rumors that have emerged after the diva’s death. In France, debate has begun about his legacy. Bardot’s assets would be around 65 million dollars, but the actress had long prepared the documents to establish how her bequests should have been divided: most of the assets were allocated to the Fondation Brigitte Bardot, the animal protection organization she founded in 1986 and based in her villa in Saint-Tropez. By law, however, the foundation cannot receive the entirety of the diva’s assets, which will have to be divided fifty percent with her only sonNicolas Charrier, born in 1960, with whom he has always had bad relations.
According to biographer Yves Bigot, much of the French diva’s fortune had already been allocated to the Brigitte Bardot Foundation. “He sold all his real estate assets at auction to finance the foundation and mortgaged La Madrague,” Bigot said.
In 2020 Bardot he also put a villa in Cannes up for salevalued at approximately 6 million euros. The diva’s film career, interrupted in 1973, had left only a few major commercial collaborations, such as a deal with the Lancel handbag brand and another ready-to-wear line sold online. «Wealth disgusts me,” the actress confided in 2006.
At the center of the succession remains his son Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, now 65 years old and resident in Norway, with whom relationships have not always been idyllic. According to French law, Nicolas (born from her marriage to the actor Jacques Charrier) is entitled to it the legitimate share equal to 50% of the assetseven though most of the assets had already been “advanced” to the Foundation that bears the actress’s name through donations, sales and contributions. It remains to be seen whether the son will decide to take legal action against the foundation or against the star’s latest husband to whom part of the estate should go. Bardot had been married to Bernard d’Ormale since 1992.
Meanwhile, the French right and left are divided over the hypothesis of one celebration
national in homage to Brigitte Bardot. While the radical right exponent and patron of the small UDR party allied with the Rassemblement National (RN), Eric Ciotti, invites President Emmanuel Macron to organize a national commemoration for the actress, the secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure, rejects this hypothesis.
«National tributes – writes Faure in a message published on X – are organized for exceptional services rendered to the Nation. Brigitte Bardot was an emblematic actress of the Nouvelle Vague. Solar, he left his mark on French cinema. But she also turned her back on republican values and was repeatedly condemned by justice for racism».
