Volkswagen ID.3 increases its autonomy thanks to the new 77 kWh battery and exceeds the psychological threshold of 500 km of autonomy, setting the odometer at around 550 in the WLTP cycle. ANSA Motori was able to test the renewed sedan during a long test both in the city and on extra-urban journeys.
The sedan from the Wolfsburg company, which pioneered the brand’s full electric range, underwent a restyling last year that respects, and indeed underlines, the stylistic features of the ID range. The external details underline its appearance, and the front gives the car a dynamic appearance, with modern and slender shapes. The renewed lines of the front bonnet and the contrasting tailgate make the ID.3 more dynamic and sporty, as do the aerodynamic wheels that optimize air flow. The headlights are now LED as standard – but our car was equipped with LED Matrix IQ.Light – to the benefit of visibility. In the rear area, a luminous signature identifies the profile of the tailgate.
Inside, the passenger compartment has been restyled – also based on customer requests – and is refined, comfortable and functional. The technological level is very high, which thanks to the driving aids makes the journey completely relaxing. Worth highlighting is the park assist plus with memory function, which allows you to recall stored parking maneuvers and have the car perform them on its own: very useful for those who always park in the same garage or parking space.
The software has also been renewed, now of the latest generation, which receives over-the-air updates. But, above all, ID.3 is a comfortable car to drive, with a not very large trunk (385 litres, which becomes 1,267 with the sofa folded down) and very modern in concept.
On the road, it is possible to put the 204 HP to the test which makes the ID.3 rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The speed is self-limited to 160 km/h which, where permitted, can be reached in a flash. An increasingly popular ploy, which combines respect for the highway code and safety with the protection of autonomy. Switching to sport driving mode, in any case, guarantees a good dose of fun. But that’s not all: by taking advantage of the new Software 5.0, it is possible to activate the “Performance Upgrade” function with which it is possible to increase the maximum power by 20kW, even for a limited time, by purchasing the upgrade directly in the In-Car shop of infotainment. Thus the ID.3 Pro S can go from 204 HP, as standard, up to 231 HP, improving acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h which can be covered in a time of 7.1 seconds.
The Volkswagen ID.3 falls within the eco-incentive threshold and can be ordered starting from 42,490 euros; the Edition Plus variant, however, involves an additional outlay of 1,000 euros.
