A sexist culture is said to be widespread within SpaceX, and not only that: the company’s managers do not apply the rules in force to Elon Musk, allowing the CEO to act with impunity. In fact, according to an investigation by the Wall Street Journal, the billionaire “had sex with an employee and a former intern, and asked a woman at the company to have children”. The business newspaper took the photograph of the working environment within SpaceX, based on the testimonies of some women with whom Musk had or would have liked to have relationships. The WSJ analyzed emails, messages and other documents from the lawyers of the women in question, for a total of around 50 conversations. “Elon is SpaceX and SpaceX is Elon,” a company manager said during a meeting in June 2022 after the firing of some employees who had criticized the billionaire and called for greater accountability from the company.
The company replies: “False”
The company responds to the WSJ’s accusations: “The falsehoods, mischaracterizations and revisionist history paint a completely misleading narrative.” However, SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell continues to defend Musk: “I continue to be amazed by what this extraordinary group of people manages to accomplish every day, even in the midst of all the forces working against us. And Elon is one of the best human beings that I know of.”
