Volkswagen reached a agreement with Altroconsumo which will allow the German Group to close one of the many chapters of “dieselgate” that has been talked about so much in the past. The agreement reached will allow put an end to a class action which was promoted way back in 2016 with the aim of obtain compensation for the over 60 thousand motorists admitted who between 2009 and 2015 had purchased one of the vehicles involved in the dieselgate scandal (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT models equipped with an EA 189 diesel engine).

Following the agreement reached, Volkswagen will put over 50 million euros on the table to award compensation to those who, admitted to the class action, accept the settlement proposal. Based on the agreement, each individual owner will decide to accept the offer they will range from 550 up to 1,100 euros.

In particular, the maximum amount will go to all admitted members who have purchased (as sole owners) a new car and have maintained ownership of it until after 26 September 2015 (all the exact amounts that will be paid to users are available on the Altroconsumo website).

Altroconsumo will manage the entire refund procedure. Starting from December, a special online platform will be set up for the correct and safe management of all procedures. In any case, over the next few weeks the technical and operational methods for joining and receiving payment will be defined in detail. Furthermore, the start date and time window of payment operations will be communicated.

The agreement reached between Volkswagen and Altroconsumo puts an end to a dispute that lasted years. The parties, therefore, will not continue the judicial process in the Court of Cassation. We remind you that Altroconsumo’s legal action was initiated in coordination with the organizations in Belgium, Spain and Portugal that are part of the Euroconsumers body, which had asked Volkswagen to adequately compensate all customers who were victims of dieselgate in all the countries involved.
