The electric car? A snowball: VaiEnergy is born from Vaielettrico

VaiEnergy, the new Vaielettrico channel dedicated to everything before and after the electric vehicle, makes its debut today. From energy to charging, from environmental policy to the circular economy.

In the summer of 2017, when Vaielettrico was born, the vehicles on tap were little more than a curiosity. However, we were certain that they would soon become protagonists of a global revolution. Today we can say that we were not wrong: the revolution is underway. Those who do not yet embrace it contest it. But everyone talks about it anyway.

What we did not foresee, or did not understand in all its disruptive scope, is that the conversion of mobility from thermal to electric would shine a spotlight on even broader changes in the ecosystem that surrounds it, grafting onto the wider one energy transition: new sources of energy, new ways to produce, manage and distribute it; new value chains along the automotive and electronics supply chains; new energy efficiency technologies; new urban planning and environmental policies.

Let’s steal from Greta, one of our assiduous readers, the splendid metaphor that she gave us in her blog today: “Look at the electric car as a snowball… you buy it immediately avoiding fewer emissions and money saved in fuel, then you know that your home’s electricity consumption increases so it’s better to go with PV… then since you have electricity you change the hob with induction… you will use splits more to air condition your home… EV is a powerful lever for change… and then there are the renewable supply contracts…”

Here: Vaielettrico only noticed all this along the way, thus far describing it as a side effect, an “extra”, of the electric vehicle phenomenon. From today, with the debut of the VaiEnergy channel, it becomes the second pillar of our editorial proposal.

VaiEnergy was born with a precise focus on everything that precedes and follows the vehicle in the strict sense. Starting from the opportunities to power it with self-produced energy directly from owned photovoltaic systems, or by joining the newly created energy communities. Therefore types of systems, installation procedures, integration in efficiency projects, both in residential and industrial and commercial buildings and systems. For companies it is the first step towards the electrification of fleets. And bills, contracts, free market for energy supplies. From here we go down to the charging devices, both private and collective.

But we will also talk about charging on the go, therefore the world of public charging, in tumultuous transformation, the management and payment methods, the tariff proposals of the main operators. For professionals, we will deal with the business that revolves around the new mobility and the new energy system: hardware and software producers, mobility service providers, industrial policies related to energy and the environment.

It’s a world in rapid expansion. It is estimated that around 10% of the increase in global GDP in 2023 came from activities related to the environment, with a maximum peak in Europe where it exceeded 30%. And today the sector’s turnover covers 4% of the overall world GDP, giving employment for over 36 million workers.

In short, we are convinced that VaiEnergy is the natural evolution of the Vaielettrico experiment. It is aimed at a largely new audience. But it does so with the same editorial approach: informative rigor and openness to discussion. We therefore hope that the readers of VaiEnergy, like those of Vaielettrico, will become part of our project, in a relationship that we would define, in energy terms, as “bidirectional”.
