DR Automobiles, nothing but a crisis: surprise blow to attack the market

The Italian-Chinese brand doesn’t seem to miss a beat and lands the ace that will definitively defeat the car market

Brief introduction on what the DR brand is: the automotive brand was founded in 2006 by the entrepreneur Massimo Di Risio based in Molise, in the industrial plant of Macchia d’Isernia, in the province of the same name. The company philosophy is to import cars from Chinese car manufacturers into Italy, such as Chery Automobile, JAC Motors and BAIC Group. Thanks to the license obtained, DR was authorized to market them in Italy, modifying just a few details such as the design of the bumper and obviously the brand logo.

After a less than exciting commercial debut, also due to the modest construction quality, in recent years the DR brand has managed to gain an important share of the market, improving the quality of the product and offering a rich list of standard accessories, all at very low prices. The response from Italians was immediate, with sales numbers testifying to their appreciation. But DR doesn’t want to rest on its laurels and is preparing to present something new that will take the market by storm.

DR drops poker with the new Tiger brand

Founder Massimo Di Risio took a liking to it and, after the launch of the DR brand, followed by the EVO brand in 2020 and Sportequipe in 2022, poker drops with the latest in the family, the Tiger brand. With the latter, theMolise company will import three new Chinese cars into Italy of the Chinese car manufacturer Dongfeng founded in 1969, a historic manufacturer of cars and automotive-related components. With their importation and the new brand, the DR group wants to expand its reach into Europe too.

The landing on the Old Continent of the three new arrivals branded Tiger will not take place before the end of the current year, with marketing likely in 2025. Just enough time to deal with the final bureaucratic complications and carry out the usual aesthetic changes that the DR group dedicates to the European versions of imported Chinese cars. We do not yet know the names of the three vehicles involved, but we know it is an SUV, a minivan and a multispace.

The SUVs it will be medium sized, around 4.5 meters in length and equipped with a 1.5 liter bi-fuel petrol and LPG engine with 177 HP, combined with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and with a starting price of around 27,900 euros. The minivan it will be approximately 4.9 meters in length, with the same engine, but with 20 HP more power and the same starting price. There multispace it will exceed 5 meters, will have seven seats and will adopt a full hybrid solution.
