The writing “Junior” instead of “Milan” on the map of Lombardy in the navigator of the new Alfa Romeo b-suv. This is what can be seen in a photo published on The post, deliberately ironic, was published a few days after the controversy that arose after the reversal on the name of the new Alfa Romeo vehicle which was supposed to be called “Milano”, but which in the end will be called “Junior” after the “pressure” from Minister Urso due to the dissonance between the Italian name and a model produced in Poland.

The presentation, the about-face, the controversies

But where does the “hoax” launched byimpresa and Alfa Romeo come from? Last April 10th the car manufacturer officially presented the next car in production, stating that it wanted to call it “Milano”, in homage to the city where the Biscione was born on June 24th 1910. Only a few days later, five to be exact, here was the about-face, with the announcement specifying that the car will be called, contrary to what was previously indicated, “Junior”. The reason for this reversal? Avoid any form of controversy, especially after a sentence from the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, who the day after the presentation of the car had declared that a vehicle called “Milano” cannot be produced in Poland, even in by virtue of a 2003 law called “Italian sounding” according to which it is not possible to give indications that mislead the consumer.

Learned’s words after the reverse

“We are perfectly aware that this episode will remain engraved in the history of the brand”, underlined Learned himself, after the name change. “It is a great responsibility but at the same time it is an exciting moment. The choice of the new Junior name is entirely natural, being strongly linked to the history of the brand and having been among our favorites and among the public’s favorites since the beginning.” Then going into the merits. “As a team we choose once again to make our passion available to the brand, to give priority to the product and customers. We decide to change, even though we know we are not obliged to do so, because we want to preserve the positive emotions that our products generate always and avoid any type of controversy”. Then, the final comment. “As an Alfa Romeo brand I don’t want to engage in politics because immediately when you engage in politics you lose 50% of your customers, so we don’t want to engage in politics or controversy, we have to do business. and this is the reason for our decision”, added Learnato during a press meeting, specifying: “We are not happy to have experienced this, we are saddened, and we will monitor the future developments that we will have in Italy as Alfa Romeo”.
