the Top 5 of the most requested cars

The first quarterly analysis on the food sector vehicle rental promoted by ANIASA and Dataforce reveals a comforting picture regarding rental registrations. Despite the contraction in long-term rentals, the good performance of long-term commercial vehicles and the boom in short-term car rentals have a positive impact, which according to Dataforce processing sourced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and ACI marks a +71 .13% compared to the first quarter of 2023.

This first survey, which aims to highlight the main trends underway for the long and short term sectors, analyzes the market in detail also providing the ranking of Italians’ favorite vehicles for rental and the most popular supplies for private and commercial vehicles.

Long-term rental: the 5 most requested cars

Let’s start with long-term rental (NLT)which in this first quarter recorded a contraction of 13.55% (also due to the fact that in 2023 it benefited from a large order book also linked to the delayed deliveries of 2021 and 2022).

For this type of rental, often seen as a valid alternative to purchasing a new car, the ranking of the most chosen cars from Italians it does not present any big surprises. In first place is the Fiat Panda, which goes against the trend and shows a marked increase in registrations, equal to +25.08%. And the Panda is not the one that grows the most.

Scrolling through the ranking drawn up by ANIASA and Dataforce they meet in order: in second place Nissan Qashqaiwhich grows by 62.16% perhaps thanks to the new full e-Power hybrid powertrain, Volkswagen T-Roc (on the same volumes as last year) e Toyota Yaris Cross, which marks an increase of almost 70% compared to the same period last year. The Top 5 of long-term rentals closes Kia Sportage (+21.6%).

Commercial vehicles and NBT: the Top 5

In the short term rental (NBT)the scenario is completely different: the most requested car is the Lancia Ypsilon, which as stated in the ANIASA analysis “has almost quadrupled the number of new license plates”. They follow the FIAT 500Xvery close to tripling registrations and Fiat Panda, which instead suffers from a slight decline (-7.19%). In fourth place is Fiat 500which grows by almost 60% compared to last year, and Jeep Renegade, in sharp decline (-22.07%). All this in the face of an increase in short-term rentals which has settled at +71.13% compared to last year’s data.

Also the rental of light commercial vehicles in the short term it recorded good growth, which is reflected in significant increases in registrations of all the vehicles in the Top 5. The most chosen in the first quarter were Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Isuzu N Series and Renault Trafic.

On the long-term rental front, the most popular commercial vehicle is the Fiat Ducato (+31.05%, in line with the average market increase). In second place we find the Fiat Doblò, up by +47.7%, followed by Ford Transit (+507.82%), Fiat Panda (+25.44%) and Fiat Fiorino (-31.78%). The rental of light commercial vehicles also marks the forceful return of diesel, which remains constant well above 80% share, with a “Bulgarian majority” of 94.5% in short-term rentals.
