The Ferrari Roma Spider, an elegant mid-front engine 2+ open-top car from the Prancing Horse with a retractable fabric roof, obtained the Red Dot: Best of the Best in the Product Design category. An award that rewards the work of the Ferrari Style Center directed by Flavio Manzoni.

Two Red Dot Awards were also won by the SF90 XX Stradale, a special series and limited edition car whose plug-in hybrid powertrain made up of a biturbo V8 and three electric motors is capable of delivering 1030 hp, and by the KC23, futuristic One-Off based on 488 GT3 Evo 2020 equipped with a dynamic setup for use on the track, which is counterbalanced by a static configuration aimed at showing off its lines.

In the last ten years, Ferrari has obtained 29 Red Dot Awards: no other manufacturer has achieved comparable results since 1955, when the recognition existed. From 2015 to today the jury has awarded ten Red Dots: Best of the Best to as many cars from the Maranello company: after the FXX-K, the 488 GTB, the J50, the Ferrari Portofino, the Ferrari Monza SP1, the SF90 Stradale , the Ferrari Daytona SP3, the Ferrari Purosangue and the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, this year it was the Ferrari Roma Spider’s turn to be celebrated for its lines.

The innovative retractable roof of the Ferrari Roma Spider

The Ferrari Roma Spider, which was also recently purchased by Fedez, is an elegant open-top car with a mid-front engine equipped with an innovative retractable fabric roof which proposes this solution in the Prancing Horse range 54 years after the 365 GTS4the last Ferrari with a soft roof.

The elegant five-layer tailored roof, with extensive customization possibilities and capable of guaranteeing acoustic insulation performance equal to that of a retractable hard roof, is retractable in 13.5 seconds up to a speed of 60 km/h.

Engine with exceptional power qualities

The Ferrari Roma Spider engine is part of the Twin-turbo V8 winner of the International Engine of the Year award for four consecutive years and named Best engine of the last 20 years in 2018.

The 3855 cm3 engine delivers 620 hp at 7500 rpm, equivalent to 161 hp/l, thus confirming the eexceptional qualities of power and usability achieved by the Ferrari Roma engine, capable of delivering 80% of the available torque already at 1900 rpm.

Like the other twin-turbo cars in the range, it enjoys an almost immediate response from the engine to accelerator impulses thanks to the adoption of a flat shaft, aimed at obtaining greater compactness and mass containment and improving fluid dynamics; of compact turbines, less subject to inertial forces; twin scroll technology which reduces the interference of exhaust waves between the cylinders; and an exhaust manifold equipped with equally sized ducts to reduce pressure losses.

The car is equipped with Variable Boost Managementsoftware developed by Ferrari which varies the torque delivered depending on the gear used to benefit from ever-increasing thrust whilst optimizing consumption.

In fact, as the ratios increase, the amount of torque available increases, reaching 760 Nm in 7th and 8th gear: on the one hand, this has allowed the use of longer ratios, useful for limiting consumption and emissions, in the higher gears. tall; and on the other to adopt ever-increasing torque curves in the lower ones to provide a constant sensation of thrust.
