Pension, how to get to 8,000 euros if you started working after 1996

Who has one very low pensionor in any case risks having it, he must know that there is the possibility of arriving – with a few simple moves – at 8,000 euros per year.

Today, in fact, in Italy the minimum pension is equal to 598.61 euros per month for 13 months, 7,781.93 euros the year. This figure rises to 614.77 eurosprecisely 7,992 euros per year.

Minimum pension not for everyone

The term “minimum pension” means the pension threshold that comes anyway guaranteed to the pensioner through the provision of a specific one integration. For example, those who managed to secure a pension of just 300 euros could still be entitled to others 298.61 euros per month so as to reach the minimum amount which, thanks to the further revaluation, therefore rises to 614.77 euros.

However, to benefit from the supplement to the minimum wage, certain requirements must be met, both with regards to other income received and for the contributory position. Let’s focus on this last aspect, which already today – but will be even worse in the coming years – cuts out many present and future pensioners.

The rule, in fact, provides that those who have the right to the integration of the minimum treatment are only those who have at least one weekly contribution accrued in the remuneration regime, therefore by December 1995.

The problem with these workers is that in most cases they can’t even retiregiven that today to do so at 67 years of age and 20 years of contributions you need to have reached an amount at least equal to the Social Allowance (534.41 euros per month in 2024).

However, there is a trickavailable to some workers and pensioners, useful for ensuring a minimum pension of 8,000 euros a year even though work has started after 1996; Let’s see what it’s about.

At work since 1996, here’s how to still get the minimum pension

Anyone who started working after 1996 and has no contributions paid in the previous period is cut off from the possibility of requesting integration into the minimum wage.

However, it is important to know that there are options to be accredited contribution for past years and thus enjoy all the advantages recognized to those who have at least one weekly contribution matured by 31 December 1995.

For example, there is the possibility of receiving, upon request, a notional contribution for periods not worked. In some circumstances, in fact, the INPS recognizes social security coverage free of charge, valid both for achieving the right to a pension (but with limits, based on the option used) and for increasing the amount. And in this case there would also be the advantage of being able to be included in the mixed calculation of the allowance and “to unlock” the right to integration of the minimum treatment.

In particular, there are two cases that can come to your aid:

  • The free redemption of compulsory military service. Anyone who served in the military before 1996 could use this possibility – using the specific INPS service – to ensure that their notional contribution is recognized and thus have those contributions in their salary which allow them not only to benefit from the integration to the minimum wage but also to access the old age pension without having to look at the economic requirement;
  • The free redemption of maternity for periods outside the employment relationship. It is reserved for women who at the time of application have accrued at least 5 years of contributions, who are given the opportunity to have 5 months of contributions recognized free of charge. This tool therefore represents a solution for those women who started working after one or more pregnancies during the period in which the salary was in force. To apply, you must complete the following form and deliver it to the competent INPS office in the area.

Then there is the possibility of redeem your pre-1996 degree, so as to be included in the mix and enjoy all the aforementioned benefits. However, in this case there is a cost to be paid calculated on the last salary received at the time of the redemption request.
