The work of Magagnotti

Magagnotti outlines the figure of Bernardin by retracing the stages of a life that ended too soon. He was born April 2, 1928 in the town of ColumbiaSouth Carolina, and died on November 14, 1996 a Chicago.

He had a difficult childhood: his father Giuseppe, a stonemason, who emigrated from Primiero in the 1920s with his wife Maria Simion, left him an orphan at the age of six with his little sister Elaine, during the period of the Great Depression.

Bernardin was initiated into theological studies, until he rose to the leadership of what was the largest archdiocese in the United States, Chicago. He was also president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, becoming an authoritative and solid point of reference not only for American Catholics.

Bernardin accompanied periods of great transformation in the Catholic Church and society, both in the United States and worldwide. He was the religious leader who more than any other was committed to bringing the dictates of the Second Vatican Council into the American Church, overcoming difficult conservative obstacles.
