The book “Human, little Human” presented in Merate

It’s the big theme these days. Especially after the extraordinary intervention of Pope francesco to the G7 organized in the Brindisi area. An opportunity to reiterate, if it were still needed, that theArtificial intelligence it is not just about our tomorrow; it’s already here, now. In the future, if anything, it will only be stronger and more pervasive. And – as they explain Mauro Crippa And Giuseppe Girgenti in the introduction of their book Human, Little Human, presented yesterday evening, Monday 24 June 2024 in Merate – theThere is no big risk «that it becomes like human intelligence, but rather the opposite: that human intelligence loses its peculiar characteristics and flattens out on the artificial one, being overwhelmed by it».

Artificial Intelligence? Welcome, but let’s not get overwhelmed

Yes, because to survive (or at least offer some resistance) to the probable gigantic impact of AI in our daily lives, we must first of all become aware of the «irreducible qualities of the human compared to the technological. There isn’t much time, because the damage to our cognitive connections and our understanding of reality are already operating and profound».

The general director of information and communication of Mediaset and the philosopher therefore decided to join forces to give life to this editorial product which already in the subtitle shows a clear stance: “Spiritual exercises against artificial intelligence”. All told in the form of references and contextualizations of the thoughts of great classical authors (such as Homer, Heraclitus, Socrates or Plato) and of the Christian tradition (Augustine And Ignatius of Loyola). A way to become aware of the risks involved with AI and remind the “human subject” who he really is; also through ancient, always valid precepts such as “know thyself”, “be yourself” and “love thyself”.

Spiritual exercises which, integrated with suggestions and curiosities on the topic of artificial intelligence, were told by the authors themselves during a public meeting organized by Let’s Build the Future Foundation in Merate, inside a Spezzaferri auditorium packed for the occasion, for the third stage of the cycle We build culture. Valuable food for thought also came from the general secretary of Censis, Giorgio De Rita.

Mauro Crippa

To do the honors of the house and coordinate the different steps of the talkthe president of the Let’s Build the Future Foundation Maurizio Lupi. «Artificial intelligence represents a fascinating and risky challenge at the same time – underlines President Lupi himself –. But it is a topic that needs to be addressed because it cuts across every sector of human action. It really affects everyone. And we must work together so that the enormous, and perhaps not even imaginable today, developments that artificial intelligence will bring in the near future lay the foundations for widespread well-being. The growth of a company is real if it makes the tools available to everyone so as not to be left behind. For the Foundation Let’s Build the Future, who exists, matters. We would like it to be like this, and we will always give our small contribution in this sense, even when there are great opportunities such as those presented by artificial intelligence”.

It is therefore useless to talk about a “challenge”. Rather, a lot of “collaboration” will be needed between human and artificial intelligence to achieve major generalized development goals faster and with better results.
