A festive afternoon in Piazza San Giovanni Battista for the inauguration of the first shared outdoor library in the municipality of Giarre. The event, organized by the Pro Loco San Giovanni Montebello APS and the Catholic Action, saw the participation of the local community and the city authorities. Present at the inauguration were the mayor Leo Cantarella and the councilors Antonella Santonoceto and Tania Spitaleri, who underlined the importance of this initiative for the promotion of culture and reading. “Projects like this are fundamental for teaching sharing and love for books – declared Mayor Cantarella – and represent an added value for the whole community”. The event saw the special participation of the writer Enzo Di Maria, who presented some of his books, involving the public with his stories and anecdotes. The musicians Cristian Messina and Ferdinando Scaccianoce delighted those present with a series of songs by Fabrizio De André, creating a perfect combination of literature and music. The shared outdoor library, located in the central Piazza San Giovanni Battista, was designed as an open space accessible to all.

Citizens will now be able to borrow and donate books, encouraging continuous cultural exchange. This project represents a significant step towards promoting reading and the culture of sharing, fundamental values ​​for the growth of a cohesive and aware community. The Pro Loco San Giovanni Montebello APS and the Catholic Action, promoters of the initiative, expressed their satisfaction with the success of the event and the active participation of the citizens. “It’s just the beginning of a journey that we hope will lead more and more people to discover the pleasure of reading and sharing,” said a representative of the Pro Loco. The house has been added to the national map of book sharing points sponsored by the Anci (National Association of Italian Municipalities), the Ministry of Culture and the Center for books and reading.
