A book outlines the “Moro”: it talks about Ludovico Sforza

The rise to power of the “Moro” and the splendors of the Milanese court at the end of the fifteenth century. We return to talking about Ludovico, Duke of Milan, as part of the 530th anniversary of the conclusion of the works that led to the birth of Piazza Ducale. It was the Municipality of Vigevano that presented a rough calendar of events in February, which was however subject to additions. There
Società Storica Vigevanese now presents Nadia Covini’s volume, “Ludovico Maria Sforza” published by Salerno. The appointment is for Saturday 15 June at 10.30 am with free admission, at the San Dionigi auditorium with the patronage of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation.

This volume outlines one of the most interesting figures of the Renaissance. The rise to power of Sforza, his personality and his projects in the cultural and artistic fields are at the origin of the splendor of the Milanese court at the end of the fifteenth century. From a cadet destined for a minor political profile, he became the seventh Duke of Milan thanks to a skillful, patient and sometimes unscrupulous strategy, removing pitfalls and obstacles coming from many adversaries and enemies. Among those who tried to block the way to his ambitions, the last and fatal was Louis of Orléans, who in 1495 opposed him in Lombardy and in 1500, having become king of France, defeated him and relegated him to a prison near Tours, where he remained until the end of his days.

The author, Nadia Covini, teaches medieval history at the University of Milan. He has dedicated various studies to the institutions of the Lombard Renaissance, from the Viscontis to the Sforzas.
