BOOK SQUARES

From 11th to 15th June the squares of Florence are filled with stories with the 3rd edition of “Book Squares” the demonstration ofFlorentine summer organized by Confartigianato Imprese Florence.

5 evenings with beyond 60 events including presentations, readings, workshops for children spread throughout 8 squaresnot only from the historic center but belonging to all the neighborhoods of Florence: Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Santa Maria Novella, Piazza Strozzi, Via de’ Cerretani, Piazza delle Cure, Piazza Elia Dalla Costa, Piazza dell’Isolotto, Piazza Dalmazia.

“Words in common” it is the underlying theme of the event which aims to spread the power of books as a tool for growth and social comparison, but also the desire to bring culture to all citizens in every corner of the city and to support and enhance the heritage represented by Florentine bookshops. In fact, 13 bookstores are involved in the initiative, both independent and chain: Alfani, Farollo and Falpalà, Feltrinelli, Florida, Gioberti (Libreria Lagioberti Km0, Libreria La Gioberti, Libreria Gioberti), Giunti Odeon, Jane and Edward, Leggeggermente, Libraccio, Malaparte, Polistampa.

Among the flagship events, the presentation of “The Pit of the Wolves” (Mondadori) by Ben Pastor in SMN (Wednesday 12th at 9.00 pm) “Beautiful teacher” (Edizioni Erasmo) by Paolo Boschi in Piazza Elia Dalla Costa (Thursday 13th at 7.00 pm) while at 9.00 pm in Dalmatia space for “Tangerine” (And/Or) of Emanuela Anechoum. Friday 14th at 9.00 pm in SMN Benedetta Tobagi presents “The massacres are all a mystery” (Laterza), while at the same time it arrives in Piazza dell’Isolotto Nicoletta Verna with his latest “The Days of Glass” (Einaudi); Saturday 15th in via de’ Cerretani at 9.00 pm it is the turn of Carlotta Vagnoli and her “Nocturnal animals” (Einaudi); on Wednesday 12th at 9.00 pm in Piazza Dalmazia, however, there will be an opportunity to discover the publishing house, all Florentine, Clichy.

Among the new features of this edition comes “Florence reading in the Piazza dei Libri – The Book Party is in the city”: the idea is to take your book to the streets, sit down and read in silence for the first half hour and for the next half hour anyone who wants can do a little work on their reading.
