On Sunday 9 June a new edition of the Antiques Market awaits Casale Monferrato. June is another month full of events and visitors: with the end of schools, Casale Città Aperta and the shopkeepers’ markets in the city centre, tourists in the area increase significantly. They will certainly find interesting things in the approximately 300 antique dealers’ stalls at the Pavia market and Salone Tartara, to which must be added those of typical local products. What’s interesting about this edition? June is an ideal month for those who deal with books and prints. There are truly all types of books: to satisfy the bibliophile’s passion you can look for rare editions embellished with period illustrations or richly ornamented colophons, or perhaps the market becomes an opportunity to find the issue of Urania or the Mondadori thrillers that have been sought for some time and which will be enjoyed in a pleasant moment under the umbrella. Books worn out by years of reading or perhaps remainders still in cellophane, lots of comics of all types. There are at least twenty exhibitors who dedicate themselves to written pages, you just need to have the patience to search.
Equally sought after are the prints, at least a couple of stalls have specialized in advertising ones since the 1930s, with about ten offering the possibility of browsing ancient prints, collections of prints divided by subject and genre. A particular market in Casale is that of philatelic postcards: five or six stalls display boxes and boxes of cards divided by location and often also a large section of military postcards. Beyond a few cancellations, perhaps rare, they are often an opportunity to take away a fragment of history at a low price. Even in this case all you need is a little patience.
