«Seeing the city, these days, “invaded” by thousands of people from morning to night, as never before during the Christmas holidays, is truly extraordinary: Gorizia deserves this and this is why we are working». The councilor for events and tourism of Municipality of Gorizia, Luca Cagliarithus comments on the long and continuous queues to enter the Digital Art Gallery, just inaugurated with a work of Refic Anadolbut also the groups of people in front of the Grado nativity scene in Corso Verdi, the sold out events at the castle, at the provincial museums and at the photographic exhibitions with works by world-famous artists. A continuous coming and going of visitors, coming from different areas of Italy but also from Austria and Slovenia, which has profoundly transformed the city.
«The numerous initiatives contained in the December program of Gorizia, now a historic event that the Municipality of Gorizia organizes during the Christmas holidays, have certainly attracted a very large audience in the city», remarks Cagliari. «A program that this year we wanted to be even richer to close the extraordinary year of the European Capital of Culture Go! 2025. Since the concerts, the public, not only from Gorizia, has shown that they appreciate and want to be there, but all the events and initiatives in Piazza della Vittoria transformed into a real Christmas village for families too have been very popular”.
«What made the difference – he adds – was undoubtedly the DAG which, despite not yet having precise data available, I can venture to have been visited, in just three days, from Friday to Sunday, by over fifteen thousand people, with permanent queues that in some moments reached almost to the churchyard of Sant’Ignazio. An exceptional success for a courageous, almost crazy project carried out by governor Fedriga and which will be one of the key legacies of Go! 2025. Gorizia, our Gorizia, today can and must look forward and I hope that the DAG can represent the vanguard of other visionary initiatives”.
December in Gorizia doesn’t stop. New big evenings are coming to liven up the city, starting from December 30th with the format “I want to go back to the 90s”, followed on the 31st by “MIAMI”, which will make the square dance after the fireworks show from the castle. On January 1st it will be the turn of the “Gene Gnocchi” comedy show, on January 3rd the Krampus parade through the city streets, while on January 6th the Befana and the Three Kings will descend from the bell tower of Campagnuzza. Numerous other activities will continue to enliven the city in the coming days.
