The peasant sculptor Carmelo Cammarata is remembered in Bivona

The announcement of the naming of a street in Bivona, the delivery of an artistic parchment to the family by the mayor Milko Cinà, the presentation of a painting by the artist Giuseppe Di Salvo, the inauguration of an exhibition of the works created in life characterized the cultural event held on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the “peasant sculptor” Carmelo Cammarata, remembered among other things for his contacts with artists and writers of the caliber of Leonardo Sciascia, Renato Guttuso, Rosa Balistreri, Cesare Sermenghi, Alfonso Leto. The event, promoted by the Bivona municipal administration and the “Carmelo Cammarata” cultural institution, was held inside the Bivona council chamber late yesterday afternoon and continued in the evening at the Circolo Leonardo Da Vinci in Piazza San John. The mayor Milko Cinà introduced the works, underlining the great cultural value of the work of the illustrious fellow citizen and the reasons that led the municipal council to name a street in the mountain center of Agrigento. This was followed by speeches by the president of the Bivonese municipal council Angela Perconti, by Lorenzo Reina, creator and creator of the well-known “Andromeda” theater, by the artist Filippo Galletto from Raffadale and by the painter from Villafranca Giuseppe Di Salvo, who recalled with emotion significant moments of the personal meeting with the artist. The series of interventions was closed by the Ciancianese director Mario Cammarata, who focused particularly on the life and the artistic and social value of the works created by the Bivonese sculptor, highlighting the love for Sicily and the value of the agricultural work that he greatly inspired in the creation of his works. The proceedings were closed by one of the sons, Antonino, who thanked those present and in particular those who worked to ensure that the event which took place yesterday took place, thus realizing what has certainly been the desire of an entire community for some time: to pay homage to an artist “who shaped not only the stone, but also the heart and spirit of Sicilian culture”, giving prestige to the municipality of Bivona with his works.
