“It is beautiful to think, and we have all experienced that the Lord sometimes allows us to perform miracles with little effort. A smile, welcome, listening, sharing, encouragement, fraternal correction are just as many ways through which to make the people entrusted to us or who we meet on our journey grow and which led Mother Teresa to coin a saying simple but effective: Better errors in kindness than miracles in unkindness”. This was stated this morning by the bishop of Prato, Msgr. Giovanni Nerbini, presiding over the Chrism Mass in the cathedral. In the homily, the prelate addressed the priests to thank them in a “sincere and authentic” way for their ministerial commitment. About sixty priests were present at the mass; on the occasion, two important ordination anniversaries were also remembered: Don Bruno Martini, parish priest of Santa Maria Assunta in Narnali, and Father Venceslao Dal Cero of the Sacramentini, who this year celebrate fifty years of mass.
Then addressing the faithful present, Msgr. Nerbini exhorted: “Love your priests, accompany them, be close to them in a fraternal way to encourage them, also to advise them with humility as a brother and a sister know how to do. This prayer that I recommend to you today must look to the present and future of our diocesan Church.”
In the afternoon and evening, in all the churches, at different times, the mass “in Coena Domini” will be celebrated, in which Jesus’ last supper is remembered and the ritual of the washing of the feet is performed. In the cathedral the celebration will be at 5.30 pm, presided over by the bishop. At the end the reposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Until midnight, the diocese informs, the churches will be open for Eucharistic adoration; the appointment will be renewed with a much loved tradition: the so-called “tour of the seven churches” in the historic center to visit what were once called the “sepulchres”.
