ANCONA – Sunday 28 April marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work established by the International Labor Organization (ILO) with the aim of promoting the debate around the topic of accident prevention and occupational and work-related diseases.

Edilart Marche, Joint Territorial Committee and Construction School, made up of artisan associations and trade union organizations in the Marche region, aims to inform companies and workers about the training activities available to increase the culture of safety on construction sites.

«Zero risk does not exist – says Elisabetta Grilli, President of Edilart Marche – but workplace safety training is a fundamental aspect for all companies that aim for the growth and protection of their employees». “It’s not just about fulfilling legal obligations – recalls the president of Edilart Marche who in 2023 carried out almost 300 courses in the 5 provinces involving around a quarter of employers and employees – but also about guaranteeing a safer and more productive and prevent deaths.” In 2024 there were 2 victims in the Marche region, one in Jesi and one in Rapagnano. The 2023 numbers were stark with 15,714 injuries recorded and 21 deaths. “In the working context – adds Filomena Palumbo, Vice President of Edilart Marche – the general training of workers takes on a key role”. “It helps create a culture of safety within organizations, reducing the risk of accidents at work and improving overall efficiency.”

The construction sector remains one of the most at risk of accidents and if in Italy between January and February 2024 119 workplace accidents occurred, of which 91 were fatal during work and 28 while commuting, the Safety and Environment Observatory Vega Engineering, which has photographed the accident risk in the Italian regions, places the Marche at yellow risk, together with Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Tuscany, Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Liguria among those with a moderate accident incidence in a white-yellow-orange-red scale. The identikit of the worker most at risk is male, Italian, between 45-54 years old.

Alongside the training activity, Edilart Marche carries out free visits to the construction site which help companies and workers to understand the regulations in force on the subject to the full advantage of employers and employees who can thus implement the regulations in force on the subject by adopting the provisions without facing possible sanctions from the authorities responsible for control and, at the same time, raising the level of safety on construction sites in the area which is always needed.
